Tim Buckley

District 5870 DGN 2009-2010

Tim Buckley was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. Majoring in history, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wichita State University. In 1972, Tim joined the family business, Buckley Industries, Inc., which fabricates fiberglass insulation, foamed plastics and sponge rubber materials for various industries. His Rotary classification is “Plastics-Foam Fabrication.”

In 1979, Tim met and married Gail Edwards Roper. In April of that year, he also became one of the first fourth-generation Rotarians in the Rotary Club of Wichita, Kansas.

In 1986, he, Gail, and the kids moved to Austin when the company bought the assets of Polyplastics. This was a return home for Gail who grew up in Temple, and graduated from Temple High School and Baylor University. At the time, her parents and siblings also lived in Central Texas.

Tim has been a member of the Rotary Club of Northwest Austin since 1988, and has served his club in many areas, including President in 1993-1994. He has served the District on the District Governor Nominating Committee, as a Group Representative (predecessor to Assistant Governor), District Trainer, New Club Extension Chair, Assistant Governor, and will serve as District Secretary in 2007-‘08. He has enjoyed being involved in starting four new clubs in the District, and in 1998, Tim was inducted into the District Roll of Fame. He has more than 14 years of perfect attendance. Tim is a RI Foundation Benefactor, a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and Gail and son Jordan are also PHFs. Jordan continued the family Rotary tradition by being a three-time president of the Interact Club at Westwood High School. In November, 2006, Tim and Gail joined 95 Rotarians from across the U.S., and other international Rotarians, in a Rotary Foundation assisted effort to immunize children against polio during the National Immunization Days in Ghana, West Africa.

Tim’s interests beyond Rotary and work include hunting, fishing, golf, and church, though not necessarily in that order. While in Kansas, he served three years as State Chairman of Ducks Unlimited. He and Gail have served on a number of committees, and chaired several, at their home church, Bethany United Methodist Church, in northwest Austin.

Tim and Gail have three children and three grandchildren, all calling the Austin area home. He is currently Vice President of the Polyplastics division, and a director and co-owner of Buckley Industries, Inc.
