Barry Curlee
District Governor
Barry Curlee has been a member of the Rotary Club of Austin since 1984. He has served as President, Chairman of the Austin Rotary Club Foundation, Assistant Governor, and District Membership Chair. Barry is a member of the District Role of Fame, has sponsored more than 40 members into Rotary and is a Paul Harris fellow +2. He was also “Chief of Mischief” for his club.
Born in Temple, Texas and raised in small towns across Texas, Barry is a graduate of Bronte High School and has a BBA from Texas Tech. He worked at IBM and Exxon before owning and managing Office Pavilion Corporate Furnishings and was honored with “The Small Business Person of the Year Award” by the Austin Chamber of Commerce. Since selling his business he works with small businesses as a sales and marketing consultant.
Barry’s community activities include Chairman of: Leadership Austin Alumni, Central Texas BBB, Austin Arthritis Foundation, and Capital Soccer Club. He has also been on many boards and commissions, including UT’s KUT-FM Radio and Dept. of Human Ecology, the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, YMCA, Ballet Austin, and City of Austin Human Relations Commission.

Barry and his wife Susan have two children: Shannon Strathmann, who is married with two children; and Clay, who is a college student. Susan and Barry met on a blind date at the Capitol when she was an aide for a state representative. She is a former deaf education teacher and educational-trainer as well as the Marketing Coordinator for an annuities and securities company. She is now the owner of a small business producing hand-made purses and jewelry. Susan is also a Paul Harris fellow.
