Gaz Green: Georgetown - Sun City Club.
Gaz Green a member of the Georgetown-Sun City Rotary Club passed away November 30, 2007; not in December 2007. Gaz was a Charter member of this Sun City Rotary Club. This past year, before his death, the club awarded Gaz its first ever "Decade of Community Service Above Self" Award. Each year our club awards a "Service Above Self" Award to a Rotarian who serves our club and community with deeds of service above the call of duty. The Sun City Club Board voted to name this annual award the "Gaz Green Rotarian Service Above Self Award" in future years. Since moving to Georgetown and taking up residence in Sun City Gaz had taken up a leadership role in many community betterment programs. He was instrumental in beginning the "Senior University Program" held at Sun City and open to all senior Citizens of the Georgetown and surrounding communities. Classes are offered in both Fall and Spring Semesters and early Summer. Classes are taught in Sun City, in Georgetown and at Southwestern University. Gaz was also the leader in bring the Temple Symphony to Georgetown. This now results in 6 Concerts each year in Georgetown and about 500 season ticket holders and an average attendance of 650. His actions also supported the building of a new Performing Arts Center at the Georgetown High School campus. His leadership influenced the elevation of the Arts in the High School leading to the creation of a High School Orchestra and to providing Scholarships to talented graduating students. Gaz published a book just prior to his death entitled "Call me Gaz" conveying his most interesting life memoirs. The proceeds from this book go to the Gaz Green Symphony Legacy Fund at the Chisholm Trail Communities Foundation to support the symphony. Gaz was a dedicated Rotarian, a Paul Harris member and a leader and supporter of all our Club's Community and International Service Projects. He is greatly missed and was a tremendous mentor to many of us!
