Champions of Children’s Literacy
Dr. Clift Price and The Rotary Club of Austin
On Thursday, November 9, 2006, the Capital Area Reach Out and Read “Wild about Reading” Gala will honor several individuals and groups for their continued support and devotion to children’s literacy, and Dr. Clift Price and the Rotary Club of Austin are two of those honorees. The Champions for Children's Literacy is an honor which recognizes individuals and organizations that significantly contribute to and continually promote children’s literacy in the Austin area.
Dr. Clift Price, Past District Governor and member of the University Club of Rotary, is being recognized for his involvement in getting the Reach Out and Read program established as part of the regular pediatric programs in city and county clinics and rallying support of the medical community. He has made major strides over the last five years to help get the word out into the community and establish recognition and creditability for this outstanding program. He has been instrumental in recruiting Rotary clubs in District 5870 to get involved in this effort both as financial supporters and volunteers and has served as the liaison between the Capital Area Reach Out and Read and the Texas chapter.
The Rotary Club of Austin is being recognized for bringing the Reach Out and Read program in the Austin community to a new level with countless hours of volunteer time spent restocking the clinics shelves with gently used books on a monthly basis, running book drives, providing office space for a home of the Capital Area Reach Out and Read office and staff and providing two major grants of over $10,000 for Spanish books for the children serviced by the ROR clinics in and around the Austin area.
Due to the help of individuals and support groups like these being recognized as Champions of Children’s Literacy, the Capital Area Reach Out & Read program now serves 24 clinics from Austin to Georgetown. It is our hope that other members of Rotary clubs in District 5870 will join us in thanking these two honorees by attending this Gala and Silent Auction. Information is listed below concerning table sponsorships and ticket prices for this event. If you or your club is interested in more information about this special evening, please check our the website www.caror.org or call Mindy Gomillion at 512-495-9988.
