Recent Community Projects
The Rotary Club of Mexia strives to be a good community partner. We work on various projects throughout the year to benefit the residents of our part of Central Texas.

Recently, the club sponsored a community Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive. A very close friend of the Mexia club, a young man who was a RYLA camper sponsored by the club several years ago, was battling leukemia. He was in need of a bone marrow transplant. In an effort to increase his chances of finding a match, and the chances of matching someone somewhere with the same need, the club took on this project. Sadly, the young man lost his battle with the disease late in 2009, but the need for marrow donors remains the same and hopefully the club's event raised area awareness. In addition to the bone marrow drive, Rotarians collected funds for the family of the young man at a local football game. | Mexia Rotarians invited Lila Ramirez from the Scott & White Bone Marrow Donor Program to speak to the community about the bone marrow registry. It is the hope that informing the public will increase the number of people who register for the program on October 10. Shown with Lila are Bill Wragge and Sheila Higgins. |
Another recent project was a drive for school supplies to provide needy families in the area with items needed to head back to school. Shown below are two families that were beneficiaries of the program. The children, ranging from Pre-K to High School, were all provided with backpacks stuffed with back-to-school necessities.
