Gene Davenport Receives SERVICE ABOVE SELF Award
At the recent District Governor Installation Banquet at Reunion Ranch near Georgetown, RI District Governor Tim Buckley surprised PDG Gene Davenport, Rotary Club of Georgetown, by presenting him with the RI Service Above Self Award. As Rotary’s highest honor for individual Rotarians, this award recognizes up to 150 Rotarians annually, worldwide, who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service, with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary. Candidates are nominated by current and past officers and general officers of Rotary International. PDG Gene is only the fourteenth Rotarian in District 5870 to receive the Award.
DG Buckley read a letter to PDG Gene from RI President John Kenny that said, in part, “With this award you are being recognized for the contributions you have made through Rotary over the years. I believe that you are an extraordinary example of how each Rotarian can make a difference. I am honored to have you as my fellow Rotarian and thankful that The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands.”
Congratulations, Gene.
